The RUP (Rational Unified Process) is an incremental and adaptive process model that covers all phases of the Software Engineering Process. It is closely linked with the UML Model (Unified Modelling Language) and consists of four phases:
- Inception - To achieve concurrence among all stakeholders on the lifecycle objectives for the project.
-
Elaboration - To baseline the architecture of the system to provide a stable basis for the greater part of the design and implementation effort.
-
Construction – To clarify the remaining requirements and complete the development of the system based upon the baseline architecture.
-
Transition – To ensure the Software is available for its End Users.
The disciplines (also referred to as workflows) focus on specific roles within the development team that are assigned to certain team members or groups. This results in many interdependencies between the RUP elements and leads to a high complexity. Tailoring the RUP for a specific project is essential. Corporate quality supports you in tailoring the RUP to your specific needs without neglecting the established approaches of your organisation.
